The capital city of Slovakia is a multicultural melting pot of Slovaks, Czechs, Hungarians, Austrians, Germans and Jews. Its population of 450,000 increases considerably in the summer months when many visitors arrive, attracted by cheap prices.
Bratislava is located on the banks of the river Danube, and has many attractive sights. Bratislava Castle is around 80 metres above the river, and though the exact date of its construction is not known it is thought to have been a fortress during the 10th century.
St. Martin’s Cathedral and Bratislava Town Hall in the old town are also worth a look, and Bratislava Forest Park is perfect for relaxing in the summer.
