A Guide to Bucharest for Motorists

Bucharest is often referred to as the ‘Paris of the East’ due to its reputation as an arts and culture capital. The National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Romanian Athenaeum have helped to consolidate this reputation, and there is a plethora of architecturally interesting monuments and buildings, including the recently built Palace of the Parliament.

Since becoming the capital of Romania in 1862, Bucharest has grown considerably, this despite suffering much destruction during the Second World War. Today the city has a population of around 2 million, and is beginning to attract visitors drawn by the beautiful lakes and gardens that are scattered around.
